Canada is a very popular destination for UK residents. In 2009 there were 9566 permanent residents of Canada originating from the UK, an increase of 4649 (106%) since 2000. The thought of moving to Canada permanently may be an exciting dream for many people but you will need to meet one its entry criteria if that dream is to become a reality.
Federal skilled worker visa
Visas are awarded based on a point’s basis taking into account the skills that Canada requires. Points are awarded for:
· education achievements
· languages spoken
· work experience
· age
· whether you have a job offer in Canada
· your spouse’s education
· whether you have family in Canada
Entrepreneur Visa
If you have at least 2 years business experience and a net worth of at least C$300,000 then you are eligible to apply for an Entrepreneurs Visa with the intention of owning and managing your own business in Canada.
Investor Visa
If you do not want to own and manage a business but have business experience and a net worth of at least C$1,600,000 then by investing a refundable C$800,000 into Canada’s economy you could be eligible for permanent residence.
Of course if you don’t want to move to Canada permanently there are a number of temporary visas available for tourists, those wanting to study, those wanting to get married etc.
