Thinking of moving to New Zealand? One of the most important aspects of your move is finding somewhere to settle that you can call home.

With so many beautiful places to choose from in New Zealand, narrowing it down to one place is a hard task. One of the more obvious first decisions is making a move to Wellington. Why is this an obvious first decision?

Why Relocate to Wellington?

Wellington is home to fantastic arts and culture, amazing craft beer, a bustling city centre, picturesque views over the city and - if you're moving for business - an impeccable public transport system

In the meantime, let's get to the nitty-gritty of why Wellington should be your first choice if considering a New Zealand relocation.

Where to Live in Wellington?

1) Johnsonville

With a hose of excellent schools and good public transport into town, this is a great place for families to settle. Added bonuses include plenty of parks and reserves and a good community spirit.

2) Hutt Valley

Quite a way out from the main town, but has a very good train service. Good shops, schools and atmosphere.

3) Brooklyn

Houses here are popular for their amazing views over the city and harbour. Public transport is good and you’re just an 8 minute ride into the main city where there are lots of shops and pubs.

4) Island Bay

A seaside village with great views of the south island. Compared to some other locations it’s generally considered inexpensive - making it quite a popular choice for those on a budget when considering where to live in Wellington. A 10 minute drive or 20 minute ride by bus into the city centre. Lots of good schools around the area, which is rich in arts and culture – there’s always something going on here to keep you entertained!

5) Houghton Bay

Slightly more secluded than Island Bay, this is a cove with a curving sandy beach and rocky headlands. Within the same distance to town as Island Bay. Popular with surfers and divers.

6) Aro Valley

Looking for a good social scene when considering where to live in Wellington? Look no further. Perfect for young, single or professional couples who enjoy an active social life, Aro Valley definitely has a trendy vibe about it with its regular parties, performances and gatherings. Relatively inexpensive compared to some other suburbs.

7) Kelburn

An inner city suburb located just to the west of the CBD. A favourite for many upper-middle class families due to its close proximity to town. Also popular with students due to the local Victoria University of Wellington.

8) Khandallah

Situated on the hills overlooking Wellington Harbour. Dominated by a large area of parkland, this is a popular place to live and one of the most affluent suburbs in Wellington with a good selection of local amenities.
